Ms. Pac-Man Butcher Block, 2005
This is an end-grain cutting board and a pixel-for-pixel recreation of the classic video game heroine made from 256 pieces of walnut and hard maple. Completely functional (in fact created as a wedding present for close friends), it is also an artisanal commentary on digital and ASCII art and a play on scale, reversing the illusion of smooth continuity in digital miniaturization. Referencing Daniel Rozin's wooden mirrors, this wooden video game, however, makes no attempt at technological sophistication. While it alludes to eating, it only provides a platform (hence furniture) for traditional food preparation. (Dimensions: 14" x 14" x 1.375")
